A Story of Therapy

1 min read

During my younger years, I dealth with a very intense eating disorder. When I was fourteen and began dieting, it was positive because I did learn about fruits and vegetables and healthier choices, however, I also began feeling restricted. In time I found a book by Geneen Roth which saved me from those experiences for a time. She wrote a lovely book about healing from compulsive eating and starvation, and the issues that women face in this world. She brought me back to a state of stability where I could love myself, nourish myself, and feel good about myself again. That was when I was 16. However, when I got older and had to navigate the "adult world" and grow up and apart from my parents, that is when I began really struggling. I began binge eating and going through a lot personally. I was searching for truth inside myself. I found a therapist who during that time was present for me, cared and related to my experiences, and was able to support me through those years. I did not always treat her the best or appreciate her as much as I should have, but even so she understood. Therapy is an amazing life line for periods of stress. Sometimes therapy can heal you and transform you, and sometimes it is the simple presence of another person actually caring for you in this world that is just enough. Therapy is essential for most women in this modern world, and the key to the healing of humanity. Give every person a therapist and this world could change within a day.
